Nevadans get Squeezed as Mortgage Rates Rise Amid Trump’s Iran War
Governor Lombardo Maintains Allegiance to Trump Despite Troubling Economic Signals
NEVADA - The average rate for a 30-year mortgage hit 7.03% this week as President Trump’s war of choice on Iran continues to create economic chaos across the globe and in the United States. This is particularly painful for states like Nevada, which have struggled with housing affordability for years. Governor Lombardo remains loyal to Trump despite the negative impact his tenure is having on Nevadan families, small businesses, and workers.
Shelbie Swartz, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, issued the following statement:
“Nevada families do the right thing. They work, they save, they wait for a break, and this week that break slipped further away when mortgage rates hit 7.0 percent. That’s hundreds of dollars a month for a couple in Nevada trying to buy their first home, or a nurse in Reno who just wants to stop renting. And what has Joe Lombardo offered them? Nothing. Meanwhile, if you’re a data center, you get the red carpet, a photo op, and handouts of Nevadans’ tax dollars. Working families get 7 percent interest rates and a welcome mat to wipe their feet on. Governor Lombardo can control his priorities, and for years he has made clear who is first in line. A last-minute executive order in the middle of campaign season doesn’t undo the hundreds of millions in public money already handed out. Nevada needs a governor who treats a family buying a home with the same respect he shows his billionaire donors.”
