Trump and Lombardo Are Failing Families on Housing and Cost of Living

NEVADA - Today, President Donald Trump reportedly backed out of signing the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a sweeping housing bill that sought to ban investor purchases of single-family homes and expand new home construction to address housing affordability. The bill passed both the United States Senate and House of Representatives in a bipartisan manner. Trump backed out of signing, threatening to hold the signing up to get a harmful voter suppression bill, the SAVE America Act, passed. Nevada Governor Lombardo has a similar track record of vetoing housing bills and working to kill bills that sought to ban private equity from purchasing large swaths of homes in Nevada.

“Trump and Lombardo are two peas in a pod. As families struggle with rising costs and an ongoing housing affordability crisis, both have chosen inaction over leadership. Lombardo has repeatedly blocked measures aimed at helping Nevadans afford housing, while Trump is holding a housing bill hostage to advance a harmful voter suppression measure. Despite Lombardo’s desire to thread the needle between himself and Trump, the truth is clear: both are failing to address the everyday challenges facing the people they represent. In 2025, Lombardo had several bills on his desk that would have capped rent for seniors, created a Tenant’s Bill of Rights, and reformed the summary eviction system, yet he vetoed all of them. Lombardo chose to deprive Nevadans of necessary protections and improvements to the housing system in favor of protecting businesses and wealthy interests. Nevadans need leaders who put working Nevadans first and take bold action to lower costs, including in the housing sector.”
ABOUT LOMBARDO’S HOUSING VETOS: In the 2025 Nevada legislative session, Governor Lombardo vetoed several housing bills. Among them were Assembly Bill 223, dubbed the “Tenants Bill of Rights,” Assembly Bill 280, which sought a trial period for capping rent increases at 5% for seniors, Assembly Bill 283, which sought to reform Nevada’s summary eviction process, and Assembly Bill 44, aimed to ban price fixing for housing and rental markets.
