The bill now goes to the Senate Judiciary Committee for a work session
NEVADA - Today, the Assembly Floor passed Assembly Bill 105 (AB105), sponsored by Assembly Floor Leader Sandra Jauregui, in a 27-14 vote. AB105 prohibits firearms at election sites. This bill will now move over to the Nevada Senate.
Assembly Floor Leader Sandra Jauregui issued the following statement:
“As a lawmaker and a survivor of gun violence, I know firsthand the importance of common-sense measures to keep our communities safe. The passage of AB105 is a crucial step toward protecting our democratic process and ensuring that voters and election workers are safe.. Nevada has spoken—we are choosing responsible gun ownership, safety for our families, and protecting our fundamental right to vote without fear or intimidation.”
Amber Falgout, Communications Director of Battle Born Progress, issued the following statement:
“Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy, and that process should be free from fear, intimidation, or coercion. This is precisely why AB105 is needed. Nevadans should feel confident that they can cast their ballot without fear of interference and intimidation. This measure would be a key step toward protecting voters and election workers. We applaud Majority Leader Jauregui for her work on this bill, and now look to the Senate Judiciary Committee to pass these key policies.”
Emily Persaud-Zamora, Executive Director of Silver State Voices, issued the following statement:
“Silver State Voices celebrates the continued progress of AB105 as it moves forward in the legislative process. This critical bill would prohibit the presence of firearms at polling places in Nevada, reinforcing the importance of safe and accessible voting for all. We are grateful to Assemblymember Jauregui for leading the effort on this commonsense bill that strengthens voter protection. With the 2025 legislative session entering its final weeks, we urge the Legislature to stand with Nevada voters and prioritize the safety of our democratic process by supporting AB105.”
Kris Brown, President, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement:
“Free, fair, and safe elections are a cornerstone of our democracy. We must protect our elections from all interference, including armed voter intimidation. No one in America should ever be threatened with guns while exercising their right to vote – it’s dangerous, deadly, and utterly anti-democratic. Even just the presence of a firearm at the voting booths can intimidate voters, especially in a country where so many have experienced the devastating consequences of gun violence. To protect our communities and our elections, we must ban firearms from polling places. We applaud the Nevada assembly for passing AB 105 and taking a major step towards ending armed voter intimidation.”
