Republican Controlled House Passes Budget Resolution

Updated: Sep 11, 2025

NEVADA—Republicans in the House passed a budget resolution that outlines the framework and instructions for future legislation and would begin the reconciliation process. Specifically, House Republicans passed a vote on the Senate-approved GOP budget blueprint that requires at least $4 billion in cuts. The House has committed to eclipse that amount with $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion in cuts.

Shelbie Swartz, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, issued the following statement:

“The Republican budget proposal is a direct attack on working families, the elderly, and the most vulnerable among us. Slashing Medicaid and critical social programs risks leaving millions of Americans without access to the healthcare and services they depend on. Meanwhile, it prioritizes massive tax breaks for wealthy corporations and the richest individuals, further widening the gap between the haves and have-nots. This budget is a clear message that the needs of the many will be sacrificed to benefit the few. We cannot and will not stand by while essential programs are gutted to fund handouts for the wealthiest.”

Mary Wolfrom, Organizer of Make the Road Action Nevada, issued the following statement:

“This budget isn’t just numbers. It’s about people and their families. In Nevada, over 800,000 of us rely on Medicaid to get the care we need. That includes families in Reno and people living in places like Pahrump, Ely, and Winnemucca, where finding a doctor is already hard enough. These cuts would only make it worse. At the same time, while families in Las Vegas are doing everything they can to keep a roof over their heads, cutting housing assistance could push even more of our neighbors into homelessness.

“At Make the Road Action Nevada, we work with people every day who are just trying to get by. They deserve better than being left behind while the wealthiest get more tax breaks. We’re asking our Nevada leaders to stand with us, protect our communities, and fight for a budget that puts people first.”

Kaylyn Kardavani, New Day Nevada, issued the following statement:

“Slashing budgets in the name of fiscal responsibility while ignoring the human cost is not austerity—it’s abandonment. This resolution doesn’t balance the books; it tips the scales against working families, students, and the most vulnerable. A government’s worth is measured not by the dollars it saves, but by the people it serves.”

Mathilda Guerrero Miller, Government Relations Director of Native Voters Alliance Nevada, issued the following statement:

“Americans are sick and tired of the GOP’s political theater. It’s not governance, it’s a cash grab for the rich dressed up as a budget. This resolution is a gut punch to working families, written by politicians who’ve never once had to choose between rent and medicine. They’re not tightening belts—on the backs of everyday Americans, they’re funding more yachts, stock buybacks, and billionaire tax breaks. Gutting Medicaid? Slashing housing support? Cutting billions while our communities are barely hanging on? That’s not fiscal discipline—it’s cruelty with a spreadsheet. People see it for what it is. And they’re done watching Republicans play games with their lives while pretending they’re doing us a favor.”
