Republican Controlled House Passes Trump’s Reconciliation Package

Harmful cuts to Medicaid & SNAP will cause states, including Nevada, to drastically restrict eligibility for the programs

NEVADA - House Republicans have passed their major reconciliation bill, which includes historic cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. These cuts fund tax breaks for wealthy individuals in the most significant transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top in recent decades. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates the measure will add trillions of dollars to the national debt. The bill was passed in the Senate on July 1, 2025, and now it goes to President Trump's desk for his signature.

Upon first House passage, Battle Born Progress released the following statement:

“The Republican budget proposal is a direct attack on working families, the elderly, and the most vulnerable among us. Slashing Medicaid and critical social programs risks leaving millions of Americans without access to the healthcare and services they depend on. Meanwhile, it prioritizes massive tax breaks for wealthy corporations and the richest individuals, further widening the gap between the haves and have-nots. This budget is a clear message that the needs of the many will be sacrificed to benefit the few. We cannot and will not stand by while essential programs are gutted to fund handouts for the wealthiest.”

Upon the first Senate passage, Battle Born Progress released the following statement:

“Today’s Senate vote is a shameful betrayal of working families in Nevada and across the nation. Instead of investing in our communities, Senate Republicans have gifted massive tax giveaways to billionaires at the expense of essential healthcare and nutrition programs that millions rely on every day. Medicaid and SNAP are lifelines, not poker chips.Governor Joe Lombardo may not have cast a vote today, but let’s be clear: his full-throated endorsement of Donald Trump and this cruel MAGA agenda makes him complicit. He’s siding with a vision for America that lets the ultra-rich cash in while Nevada families get kicked off their health care and see grocery bills rise.We applaud both Senator Cortez Masto and Senator Rosen for voting ‘no’ because they understand that we cannot sustain a system that prioritizes tax breaks for the wealthy at the expense of working people. We will not forget this vote, or who sold Nevadans out to the highest bidder.”
