Silver State on the Brink: Inside Nevada’s Exploding Affordability Crisis

NEVADA - Defend America Action and Battle Born Progress are releasing a Cost of Living Report, which highlights the affordability crisis facing Nevadans. Under the current Trump Administration and during Governor Lombardo’s tenure, Nevada ranks 49th in affordability, and food prices are 20 percent higher than the rest of the country. The report details cost increases in housing, healthcare, and energy. Eight local legislators signed onto the report to voice their concerns about rising costs.  

Paula Luna, Interim Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, issued the following statement: 

“Nevadans are being squeezed by rising costs at every turn, yet our governor has been nowhere to be found. Instead of standing up for working families, Governor Lombardo has aligned himself with Trump, backing or excusing policies like tariffs and Medicaid cuts that harm Nevada workers and small businesses. While Nevadans struggle to pay for food, rent, and medical care, the governor is more focused on political loyalty than economic leadership. Nevadans deserve a leader who will fight to lower costs and strengthen our economy, not stand by while the crisis deepens.”

ABOUT COST OF LIVING REPORT: The Cost of Living Report details the rising prices Nevadans feel every single day. From housing to healthcare, the report highlights the impact of tariffs and inflation on working-class Nevadans. Nevada ranks 44th in the country for housing affordability. More than half of Nevada renters and nearly a quarter of homeowners are cost-burdened. Nevada hospitals are estimated to lose $232 million in Medicaid funding alone. The state recently received a rural health care grant from the Trump administration, but it falls far short of covering the $553 million state funding gap created by the Trump-GOP bill, leaving Nevada hospitals scrambling to raise tens of millions of dollars. Overall, the report details sectors that impact working-class Nevadans every day, showing how costs have risen and the impact they are having on the state.
