A Year After Gutting Medicaid, Trump Slaps a Tax on Nevadans’ Medicine

NEVADA - President Trump recently announced plans for tariffs on generic drugs produced outside of the United States. This move threatens to enrich the President’s friends without lowering prices for consumers. Additionally, Nevada’s current governor has called Trump his “commanding officer,” demonstrating his allegiance to a president who is committed to making life less affordable for working-class people in favor of enriching himself, his family, and their buddies.

Trump’s announcement comes as we approach the Medicaid & Medicare Anniversary. These programs have been cut substantially due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which diverts $1T over the next decade from Medicaid to give tax breaks that disproportionately helped the wealthy.

“As we mark a year since the One Big Beautiful Bill Act gutted Medicaid and let Obamacare subsidies lapse, Trump’s answer isn't to lower costs for the people who need help most. It’s to raise the prices of the generic medications working families depend on just to get by. While Nevadans are choosing between paying their rent or taking their prescriptions, Trump is ensuring his devastating tariff policies will line the pockets of Big Pharma by forcing patients to rely on name-brand medication at sky-high prices.

Here at home, Joe Lombardo has also continued to do Big Pharma’s bidding, twice vetoing bills that would have capped the prices of prescription drugs, all while raking in piles of cash from pharmaceutical companies. Lombardo can call Trump his ‘commanding officer’ all he wants, but it is clear the only orders being followed here are Big Pharma’s. Nevadans are paying more for medicine and health care so Lombardo’s and Trump’s friends can pay less.”
